Dayton, Ohio Parlour Meeting Held in January

On Saturday, January 8, 2011, twenty-seven SAQA Ohio members and their guests met in Beavercreek, a suburb of Dayton, for a Parlour Meeting. The event was hosted by well known quilt artist and SAQA Ohio member, Maria Elkins and her charming daughter. The event combined members from the Southwest and Central Ohio regions of Ohio. In many cases, this was the first time that members had had the opportunity to meet each other. A spectacular "show and tell" session served to introduce members and their work. In addition, Maria and her daughter provided a wonderful selection of snacks and beverages and attendees were able to network and share resources. A small selection of photos of the event were shared by member Terry Ann Hartzell. Unfortunately, artists names and titles of work were not available at press time. If your work is represented, please comment on the blog and identify yourself and the name of your art quilt. To date, parlour meetings have been held in Central Ohio and Southwest Ohio. How about it Cleveland? Any volunteers to get a group together in the Northeast?

  1. The first two photographs are of Sue DeSantis' work and that's Sue in the first photo. Sue isn't a SAQA member, but belongs to the Miami Valley Quilter's Guild and the Miami Valley Art Quilt Network. Sue resides in West Milton, OH.

The fourth photo is Mindy Marik and Darwin's Dutch Daydream (tulip). Mindy is a SAQA member as well as 2nd VP of the Miami Valley Art Quilt Network and resides in Brookville, OH.

Thanks to Maria for sponsoring this and for all the good work. It was great fun to see everyone again and meet a few more people.

  2. Wow, that first quilt is AMAZING! What was used to create the various faces?
I have recently joined your blog, and thought you might be interested in doing the same at decolourant.blogspot.com
deColourant removes and replaces the color of dyed fabrics with ease. One of the best parts is it gives off a slight citrus smell. The ideas are endless of fabrics to create and designs to imagine that could form into a quilt.

Have a great day and I can not wait to see more quilts!
