Sat., April 21, Exhibition Opening with Juror’s Talk 1:30-2:15 pm; Reception 2 – 4 pm Juror Kathleen Loomis, was the winner of the Quilt National Japan Prize in 2009. She was the founder and juror of "Form Not Function: Art Quilts" at the Carnegie at the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, IN, 2004-2010. She has exhibited at "Color Exhibitions," Stuttgart, and "Fiber Art International 2010,"and the Society for Contemporary Crafts, Pittsburgh.

Sat., May 12, 10 am – 4 pm, Hands-on Workshop by Shelley Brenner Baird, "A Surface Design Sampler." A broad overview of surface design processes on fabric using dyes and paints. Educated as a printmaker and photographer, Baird’s work has been chosen for numerous exhibitions including "Interpretations 2011" at the Visions Art Museum, San Diego, "Focus: Fiber" at the Canton Museum of Art, "Quilt National" at the Dairy Barn, and SAQA "Sightlines," 2010-2014. Fee: $65, $15 materials fee. Registration limited to 8 participants.

Sat., June 2, 10 am – 4 pm Machine Quilting Workshop by Beth Schillig, "Stippling with Style I." Beth Schillig, Columbus, Ohio has created quilts that have won awards at IQA, NQA, AQS, PIQF, MQX, and other shows around the nation. This workshop is for confident beginners who want to learn and experiment with freehand quilting on their home sewing machine. Fee: $65; $2 kit fee, materials list. Limited to 12 participants. Participants will bring sewing machine.

Sun., June 3, 2 – 2:45 pm Lecture & Quilt Appraisals by Columbus Quilt Appraiser Dee Dadik, "The Price is right? What is your Quilt Worth?" A fun, interactive audience participation lecture illustrating comparative values of quilts from antique to newly constructed. Followed by appraisals. Dadik has been a quiltmaker, pattern designer, teacher, quilt restorer, researcher of quilt history and quilt collector for over 30 years. She is certified by the American Quilter’s Society. A fee is charged per appraisal; if possible, appraisal-seekers should pre-register.

Sat., June 30, 10 am – 4 pm Machine Quilting Workshop by Beth Schillig, "Stippling with Style II." Follows-up on June 2 workshop but can be taken independently. New designs, new and exciting fillers using stencils and freehand techniques with your home sewing machine. Fee $65; $2 kit fee, materials list. Limited to 12 participants. Participants will bring sewing machine.

SAQA Ohio Class Opportunity

Hot off the press from member Carole Staples in Cinci: Award winning national instructor, Juanita Yeager will be coming to Ohio to teach a two day class and all SAQA Ohio members are invited. You can view her work at www.juanitayeager.com. The name of the class is Flowers on a Grand Scale. The class will take place June 2 and 3, 2012 at the Evendale Cultural Arts Center. The class cost is $115.00 and includes breakfast and lunch. An additional cost of $8.50 will cover the pattern and fabrics purchased from the instructor. This fee can be paid directly to the instructor on the day of the class. Class time is 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM . Breakfast will be served from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM. A $50.00 deposit is required to register for the class. There are 10 remaining slots available.
Class Description
Red Bloom
is a two day workshop that includes techniques for making multi-fabric backgrounds, machine applique and thread painting. This class uses gradations of hand dyed fabrics to create a random fractured background with a large graphic flower. The flower is also constructed from various values of hand dyed fabrics or can be made from commercial fabrics. Techniques for creating highlights and shadows will be covered. The finished piece is 34" square. You will have the option of purchasing Juanita's hand dyed fabrics for the background and flowers or you may obtain a detailed list of fabric requirements if you want to hand dye your own fabrics or use the hand dyes that you may have in your stash.
